UKIE Ask About Games website refresh

A (re)fresh(ed) way to Ask About Games

Tag: Website

After years of working with Ukie on paid advertising campaigns using Google Search, and driving traffic to the Ask About Games website, we were delighted when Ukie came to us and asked if we could support them with creating their new site for Ask AboutGames.

Ukie wanted to have more control over their content management/editorial posting and, an updated brand identity, as well as ensuring the website clearly focused on parents. The aim was to create a new and improved AAG website that would be a one-stop shop resource for helping parents and families navigate the world of video games. This would showcase Ukie’s commitment to improving awareness and education of gaming – one of the country's most important and growing sectors.

The purpose of the Ask About Games site is to educate parents about gaming devices and safety settings, the games themselves (genres, age rating etc), and what the different PEGI ratings mean. The new site we created is easier to navigate and therefore much more appealing to parents who want to increase their awareness and understanding, but don’t have an abundance of time to do so.

Key Improvements We Made:

Game Guide section: One key feature we developed with Ukie and Andy Robertson (freelance video game journalist, game expert, and author of Taming Gaming) was a Games Guide section for the website. - https://www.askaboutgames.com/find-the-right-game

Using data and the API built by Andy, we created a comprehensive Games Guide database that displays info about most major hit games, informing parents in simple terms about everything they need to know about a game.

WordPress / future-proofed: We built the website on WordPress, using an open system with a headless CMS. This would give Ukie full control over the site, allowing them to continually make changes from the onset. We built a collection of different easy-to-use, easy-to-populate templates so anyone, regardless of dev experience and expertise, could create new pages/campaigns.

Hosting and speed: A big focus was on improving the speed and load times of the existing site. We built the new site on our own servers to increase load speed and ensure all assets were optimised to keep the site running smoothly.

Design & UX\UI Using Ukie’s new brand guidelines, we crafted a robust brand identity for them through the site’s user experience. The visuals had to be strong and bold, but never deviate from the fact that parents would be the site’s main clientele. The old website was a tad labyrinthine in its structure, but we ensured a logical and intuitive page and menu structure, so even the least tech-savvy parent could find the information they needed.

It has been a real pleasure to work in partnership with Project N to launch the new Ask About Games website. Their expertise and knowledge allowed us to create a user-friendly, intuitive platform that gives us greater control over our content and brand identity. The new site is designed to be a comprehensive resource for parents, helping them navigate the world of video games with ease. Project N has been a fantastic team to work with, consistently demonstrating creativity, professionalism, and a deep understanding of our vision.
